Follow Through

It’s been a week since my last blog post. I wanted to post a New Year’s Resolution blog on Saturday, but I didn’t want it to be full of bullshit. Here we are, January 2. It took me four days, but I found a work-around to avoid the bullshit. There’s an app for that.
The app is called Goal Tracker. It’s free. While it may not be intended, I’m using the app to check off all the small things on my to-do list.
Daily habits are just that: habits. I ignore, or outright neglect, weekly chores. Worse, I skip weekly exercise goals, like lifting. Over the past year, I’ve experienced more and more back pain due to my lax lifting. Worse, I injured my right shoulder with intermittent lifting, so I have to lift through the pain in order to get stronger. That better be a thing. No, I’m not going to see a doctor. No, PMing me is not going to change my mind.

Here’s how the app works. You set the date and time for the alarm to remind you to complete the chore, and set the recurrence parameters you want. If you already have Task reminders on your phone, you probably don’t need this app. I do not have any Task apps, so this is perfect for me.
It’s already working. I’ve lifted twice this week already. I brushed the pup’s teeth today. I watered my plants yesterday. This is perfect for the chores I often forget, and then wonder, “Did I water/brush/clean this week?”
This app will help me follow through with my weekly chores, which will help me be as productive at home as I am at the day job. I’m also using it to keep track of the days I write.
What free apps are you using to keep your New Year’s Resolutions? Yes, free, please. I’m the girl who listened to the same guided meditation for a week because I’m too cheap to pay for the next one.

Happy New Year!
