Hey Hey, My My

I’m a huge fan of Neil Young’s music. Not sure I appreciate the human being, but I love his lyrics, and I love this song, “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).” I also really like the band Battleme’s interpretation. This was the final song in the Sons of Anarchy season three finale. Shh. I needed this. Season three had more closure than season two.

This song has one of my favorite movie quotes of all time: “It’s better to burn out than fade away.” At first, I thought the Kurgan was quoting Def Leopard, but now, I wonder if they were both quoting Neil.

I turn to music when I don’t have the right words. This melancholy song about a dreary future seemed appropriate today. How long will it take this red state to go out of the blue and into the black? The king is gone, but he’s not forgotten. Like I said, appropriate.

You were the best, Obama. I would have taken four more years. I sat on my kitchen floor today and cried for what we’ve lost. I already miss this man.

Hey hey, my my.
