Sarcasm

Nothing makes me feel better about what I write than reading comments by a member of the LGBTQ+ community, bashing Love, Simon for its cis-het female author, and how fucking dare she get a book and movie deal.
Yes, that’s sarcasm.
Some days I wonder why I even bother to put words on the page. There’s so much hate in the world. I’m trying to combat hate with my books, and I’m going to be hated by all sides for trying.
On a brighter note, I’m reading Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda, by Becky Albertalli. I started it last night on the treadmill, and fell asleep reading somewhere around 36%. It’s sweet. It’s got a good hook at the beginning, and the emails at the start of each chapter make me want to keep reading. The young adult angst feels real. The characters are engaging and witty.
But yeah, fuck her for being successful and getting a book and movie deal. (Yep, that’s sarcasm again.)

All sarcasm aside, YOU GO, GIRL!!! Thank you for blazing the trail and making it possible for more authors to publish the books I needed to read when I was a kid. Thank you so much for living your dream, writing your words, and sharing them with the world. Should LGBTQ folks be successful, too? Absolutely. We all deserve to make it.
