The Book You Want to Read

write

A post in the Queer Sci-Fi Facebook group prompted this blog post. A reader wanted to know if “Queer X-Files” or “Queer Holmes and Watson” exists. Instead of trying to think of books I’ve read that fit, I thought, “I could totally write Queer X-Files.”

You’ve probably heard this saying before, “Write the book you want to read.” This is how plot bunnies breed, my friends. After reading the post about Queer X-Files, I’m thinking through who my characters would be and why they wouldn’t hook up. Maybe Scully is Ace, and a little turned off that Mulder is a sex addict – sometimes I’m influenced by real life. What.

Why not Holmes and Watson? Jordan L. Hawk has cornered the market with the Whyborne and Griffin series. Granted, there’s more magic involved than in Sherlock Holmes, but these books are fun. I love authors who write historical urban fantasy, and mad props to anyone who can. It’s not my wheelhouse, at least, not while I still have a day job. When I have the energy to research, you might see something like this from me. Until then, I’ll stick to what I know and what I can imagine.

How about you? What book do you want to read that hasn’t been written yet? Daydreaming of a time when I’ll have time to write all these stories is fun.
